Exercise And Weight Loss
Does exercise aid in weight loss ?
This is a big question to answer and if you ask 100 different people, qualified or not then you may be surprised to get as many different answers. So what is the real answer…
I will put my take on this subject, but like I say it may differ to other answers.
I have never really looked at exercise as a means to losing weight, the main reason for this is that when we exercise we will start to tone our muscles and yes we will burn some fat. Now as muscles weighs more than fat, if you are losing a little fat and gaining a little muscle then you are not going to lose weight. You may even put some weight on, this is why I have never been obsessed with weight loss.
I have always exercised to body shape rather than weight loss, meaning that we all want our bodies to look a certain way. Some may want a slim waist and slim thighs, where as another might want big thighs and big arms. So we workout to achieve those results. If we achieve those results then we are happy and weight doesn’t really come into it.
There has been much research into whether exercise helps in losing weight and a lot of the outcome is that it doesn’t really make enough difference in aiding weight loss to make it worth while. This I think can be quite damaging research as this can put people off of exercise as they will think it not worthwhile if they are not going to shed the few pounds they were hoping it would.
Exercise may not be the greatest thing to help for weight loss and I have mentioned a valid reason why not above, but exercise with a healthy diet will keep our bodies trim and keep us fit and healthy and depending on what kind of exercise we do will sculpt our bodies to the shape we want them to be.
So forget exercise and weight loss and think exercise and healthy diet for a fit and healthy body, that looks how you want it to look.
