USING AN EXERCISE BALL

How good are exercise balls when used in your workouts. Well they go back a long way and have been used by physio therapist for many years. Over the last several years they have become popular as an exercise tool for all individuals that workout regularly whether at home or in a gym.

The Exercise Ball as I refer to it is also known as a Stability Ball or a Gym Ball, Balance Ball, Swiss Ball, Fitness Ball, Physio Ball and probably many more. What ever the name they are all used for the same thing, enhance your exercise routines. If you are going to purchase one then make sure it is of good quality and burst proof.

The other thing to remember when you purchase an Exercise Ball is to get the right size Ball for your height so you can get the maximum benefit from it.

People who are 167cm or under that’s 5 feet 6 inches or under should go for a 55cm Ball.

People who are between 168cm and 178cm that’s 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches should go for a 65cm Ball.

People who are 179cm and over thats 5 feet 11 inches and over should go for a 75cm ball.

Check the specifications for the Exercise Ball before you buy it. It should be latex free PVC, be burst resistant and tested up to a weight limit of 500kg thats approx 11oo lbs. Also remember to make sure it is the right size for your height.

When you get your Exercise Ball home make sure you follow the manufacturers instructions on how to inflate the Ball and to what level. I think a rule of thumb is that the ball is right when it measures in diameter the same as the size you bought. So if you buy a 75cm Ball then it should measure 75cm in diameter when inflated to the right pressure.

There are many exercises you can do with the Exercise Ball and they can be used as in stretching, strength, yoga and many more. They are well worth a look at because they are such a versatile exercise tool.
