Exercise Bike
CYCLING TO STAND STILL
Well thats what we do on an exercise bike as we don’t actually get anywhere. But they are a good form of cardio exercise as is normal cycling. There are many different types of exercise bike, so lets have a look at a few…
Mini exercise bikes. These are just small pedal devices that have no seat, frame or handle bars. They are designed to sit on the floor whilst the user sits on a chair and peddles. They are cheaper than the traditional exercise bike and take up less room. I have never used one of these and am not sure I would bother. But worth a look at if your budget and space are small.
Upright exercise bike. These bikes look more like a traditional bike but without the wheels. They are the closest to riding a normal bike. There are different types from friction, magnet and fans but all work on the same principle of resistance of which you can increase to intensify your workout and make your muscles work harder. Some exercise bikes have handle bar movement along with the peddles so you can work the upper body as well.
Recumbent exercise bike. These bikes look a bit different, you have a seat with a back support and the peddles are in front of you. The position when using these bikes is similar to riding a pedalo when you visit the beach. They are obviously more comfortable than a traditional upright exercise bike. If you suffer from lower back problems then this would give you more support than an upright bike. It is said that cycling in this position works your butt muscles more than the upright bikes.
So what exercise bike is best ? Again this is down to personal choice. My choice would be the upright exercise bike every time but that is because I prefer the closest model to the real thing.. But depending on your budget, the space you have available or whether you would rather sit back and cycle will determine which one you prefer.
You might want to just stick to your normal outdoors bike which is fine, that’s what I’m doing at the moment. Just bear in mind that cycling in what ever form is a good cardio exercise. If you think an exercise bike may be for you then why not have a look at this great range of Exercise Bikes
