WEIGHT TRAINING
Weight training is a great form of exercise, one that will benefit our general health.
Why do I want to workout with weights? Well because firstly I am just drawn to that form of exercise, weights interest me and if you want to stick to your regular execise routine then you need to do the type of exercise that you enjoy. I know I enjoy exercise with weights because when I was a teenager I did do weight training for a short spell and had visions of being as big as Arnie. Well that didn’t happen and I drifted away from working out due to a busy teenage social life. But while I was weight training I did enjoy it. Muscle Mass….
Do I want to build huge muscle mass? Frankly no although I did when I was a teen that isn’t my goal anymore.
I am not going to exercise with weights to build huge muscles.
I am not going to exercise with weights to lose weight.
I am not going to exercise with weights to get fit.
I bet that last one got you! after all that was my NYR wasn’t it. Let me explain…. This is why I am going to combine my weight training exercise with aerobic exercise.
Aerobic exercise is what is going to work my heart and lungs and improve my stamina and although aerobics may burn fat it isn’t going to work individual muscles the same way that weights can.
Weight exercise is going to add strength and make my muscles stronger and toned.
So the two combined in a structured exercise routine will give me a good level of fitness and strength. So I will have a strong great looking toned body with a great level of fitness. Well thats the plan anyway. Basically its inner body fitness and outer body fitness.
Are weights and aerobics ok for any age? Yes but my advice to anybody that is not used to exercise or have only done one type of exercise and now wants to combine that with a different type, as I am doing, is to get a check up with your doctor. Explain to your doctor your intensions regarding your exercise and they will be able to check you over to make sure that the type of exercise you are going to do is suitable. I would say this is important after all we don’t want anybody starting their exercise routine and then keeling over.
So before you start up get a check up!
