Human Muscles

Following my last post Warm Up Exercises which was about making sure we get our muscles ready for a workout, I thought I would go through some of the main muscles that we use when exercising and the type of injuries that can happen to them, especially if we don’t warm them up properly prior to exercise.

There is said to be over 600 muscles in the human body and most of these are pairs, for example we have 2 biceps, one on each arm so there are over 320 pairs of muscles.  Some of us keep these muscles in shape and some of us don’t, those of us that do will find that we can do more activities with more ease than those that don’t.

If we injure a muscle then apart from the pain our bodies will not function exactly how we want them to and depending on the extent of the injury can take a long time to heal. This is why it is so important for us to prepare our muscles before we do any kind of exercise.

So starting with the upper body I will have a look at different muscles and the kind of injuries that can affect them.

Muscles I am going to look at are:

Shoulders

Back

Arms

Torso

Legs

These are groups of muscles as I am sure you know that each one mentioned above are made up of several different types of muscle. So when I look at the shoulders, then I will cover the main muscles that make up the shoulder area like the deltoids. I won’t cover every single muscle in each area, for obvious reason, there are just to many.

It will only be basic information, I don’t want to get all scientific and in depth about this, so look out for these Human Muscles Posts in the future.

As I write each post I will link them to the list above so they can eventually all be accessed from this post.
