Metabolism

WHATS IT ALL ABOUT

Metabolism is a well used word and is a subject that is spoken about a lot. So what is it ? Well there is a imense amount of information on this subject and it is a complicated subject with plenty of science involved. So what I would like to do in this post is explain metabolism simply without all the science…

Our bodies are constantly burning calories to keep us on the go, so put simply Metabolism is the amount of energy that our bodies need to keep going or the amount of calories we burn to stay healthy. So is our metabolism slow of fast how do we know. Well if you exercise regular and you have plenty of good muscle on your body and not to much fat, so if you have a higher muscle to body fat ratio then your metabolism is going to be fast as muscle burns more calories than fat. If on the other hand you have a good layer of fat on your body and you don’t keep your muscles occupied with any exercise then your metabolism is going to be slow as fat doesn’t burn as many calories as muscle.

This is why people who keep fit and exercise regularly burn more calories than those who don’t. So if you are in the latter category and you have to much fat for your liking and you don’t exercise regular then how can you speed up your metabolism so it can start burning more of those calories.

To start an exercise program and eat a healthy balanced diet. By a healthy balanced diet I don’t mean go on a crash diet to lose weight, you shouldn’t do that. If you are going to be exercising regularly then you are going to need the fuel for your body to cope with this exercise, which it won’t get on a crash diet. So healthy balanced diet is what you need.

As I have said in past posts always consult your Doctor and tell them your plans for your new keep fit program. Your Doctor will be able to check out that you are OK to do this, also will be able to give you some advice on exercises that might suit you and a some healthy diet advice.
