Strength Training Weights

FREE WEIGHTS VS MACHINE WEIGHTS

The big debate, this has been going on for years. Is it better to train with Free Weights or is it better to train with Machine weights. If you train at home you are more likely to have free weights than machine weights, unless you have plenty of room and the money to buy a multi gym. But if you train in a gym you most probably found more machine weights in that gym as opposed to free weights.

So which one is better for your strength training weights. Well both types of training can improve your strength and the biggest decider for most people is their own personal preference.

Free Weights

When you use free weights correctly they allow your body to move in its natural way and stabilize the body and they use the normal muscles that would be used in the movement taking place.

Weights machines

When using weights machines you can be some what restricted of the complete natural movement you are doing. So this can restrict the amount of muscles that are normally used for the movement taking place. Also a lot of weights machines are not adjustable so someone who is very tall as opposed to someone shorter. Meaning the machine may effect them slightly differently. There are some machines now that use cables and don’t restict you from the natural movement.

There is no perfect piece of equipment that can be used for strength training weights so its best to try them out for yourself, paying particular attention to the right technique. Once you have tried out the different methods then you will come to your own favourite way of training whether it be free weights or machine weights or a combination of both..

Myself I have tried a lot of the different machines and although there are a few that I do like, most of them I don’t get on with and find them restricting, I also don’t seem to get the same feeling of a good muscle workout with machines as I do with free weights. So my favourite way to strength training weights is using free weights.

Try different methods for yourself until you find your own way and then enjoy.
